Saturday/Sunday rides

by John Radford on Nov.23, 2009, under Motorcycles

After a fortnight of suffering hayfever and having constantly flowing sinuses, things finally dried up enough to venture out on the bike again.

Saturday was a *”fine’ day for a ride, so I just jumped on the bike and headed off with no particular destination in mind. First of the ‘regulation ride’ through the Weir Rd, which is always a good way to clear the head and get the blood pumping. When I got to Mundaring, I decided to continue on along Stoneville Rd through to Toodyay with the intention of heading back through the Sawn Valley and on home. However at Toodyay Rd I turned right instead, and headed to Toodyay, cause the weather was so nice and the road just beckoned.

I grabbed some munchies and a drink at Toodyay, then headed back, taking the back way  through to Clackline, and then along Gt Eastern Hwy to Mundaring. From their it was another ‘brisk’ ride through the Weir Rd and then home. Clocked up 213kms for the day, but only saw about 30 other bikes over the entire ride – wonder where all the other ones were hiding?

Sunday was a  relatively short ride with a planned fundraisng lunch at a members families home. We left the usual departure point and took a slightly diffferent way through the Keysbrook for morning tea. From there we went the back roads past Karnet and Sepentine Dam through to Albany Hwy. After a short ride along the hwy, we turned off and took the scenic ride past Canning Dam and Araluen till we got to Brookton Hwy. On the final leg of the ride, we zigged and zagged throught he back roads of Roleystone til we got to the destination at Kelmscott. From there I took my leave and headed back up Canning Rd, and down Canning Mills Rd, and on home – clocked up about 170 kms fopr the day, and a total of 383 kms for the weekend.

Thoroughly enjoyable couple of days, but didn’t sleep so well cause back was giving me some grief, and continues to do so this morning; so the bike won’t be out again till next weekend when my back has recovered sufficiently to have a little more fun.
